Crops of the Parkland an Interesting Attraction

“What’s that crop with yellow flowers?”  “What does flax look like?”  These are questions we hear tourists asking the staff at the Visitor Information Centre every summer.  For several years, the staff have been able to direct the tourists to the Crops of the Parkland plots to the north of the Centre.  A variety of annual crops grown in the Parkland are on display with an explanation about each.  Thank you to Thom Weir, Jim Gorman, Vic Surjick and staff from Ducks Unlimited Canada for seeding and maintaining the plot this year.  It’s truly a unique and interesting attraction for Yorkton.

Did You Know?

  • Harvest Meats produces 3.5 million hotdogs per WEEK!  If you laid those hotdogs end-to-end, they would stretch 486 km.  That’s a lot of hotdogs!! (From Yorkton to North Battleford, the distance is 469 km!)
  • Yorkton Chamber of Commerce is not the only Yorkton business/organization to sign Saskatchewan’s Health & Safety Leadership Charter.  Other local signatories include Access Communications; Key Auto Group; Morris Industries; Parkland College; Parrish & Heimbecker Ltd; Royal Auto Group; RH Electric; Value Tire & Battery; and Yorkton Co-operative Association (now Legacy Co-op).
